【Overview】

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine was established in 1998, is the earliest large-scale comprehensive ICU established in the national hospital of Chinese medicine. At present, it is the national Regional Medical Center of Chinese Medicine (direction of acute and critical care), the clinical key specialty of the National Health Commission, the general lead unit of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" key specialty and Critical Care Cooperation Group of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on cardiopulmonary intensive care, which can treat acute and critical diseases including sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, respiratory failure and severe craniocerebral injury around the clock. The department has been working hard on the clinical and research work of the early intervention of traditional Chinese medicine to "reverse" and "intercept" critically ill patients, giving full play to the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, and carrying out diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of classical theories of traditional Chinese medicine, so as to improve clinical efficacy. Relying on the work of three famous doctors' studios (Academician Chen Keji's famous Doctor's studio, Shi Zaixiang's Famous Doctor's Studio, Chao Enxiang's famous doctor's studio), the experience of famous doctors was applied to clinical practice. The department develops and applies new technologies, new therapies and hospital preparations with TCM characteristics. At present, the department has applied and developed nearly 10 kinds of characteristic therapies and 1 hospital preparation Tongguan Capsule, and has carried out in-depth mechanism research.
In 2004, the department took the lead in opening the "green channel" of acute myocardial infarction in the national Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2008, a 104-year-old patient with acute myocardial infarction was successfully implanted with a heart stent, and the follow-up was good for 6 years, setting a medical world record.
