Introduction

China-Sweden Joint Research Base For Chinese Medicine (JRBCM) is an overseas joint research base for Chinese medicine jointly established by Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine (the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, the Second Clinical Medical College of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Academy of Chinese Medicine), Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University in Sweden.
 

JRBCM is committed to relying on the respective advantages of the three parties to carry out international cutting-edge Chinese medicine scientific research in Sweden, provide the mechanism of action and material basis evidence for the prevention and treatment of diseases of Chinese medicine, and promote Chinese medicine to make greater contributions to human health.
 

The research areas of JRBCM include the prevention and treatment of immune-related diseases in Chinese medicine, the development of new Chinese medicines, and the European policy of Chinese herbal medicine. JRBCM runs based on the rich clinical resources of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, the leading experience of the Center for Molecular Medicine of Karolinska Institute in the field of translational medicine research, and the chemical and biological research on natural products of Uppsala University. JRBCM will promote the exchange of tripartite knowledge and ideas, focusing on the combination of modern medical research evidence and Chinese medicine focusing on prevention and multi-target effects.
 

JRBCM is the first joint research institute of Chinese medicine established in European. JRBCM  is marking the beginning of the in-depth participation of the international mainstream medical community in the research of Chinese medicine, the entry of the world's top universities and scientists into the field of Chinese medicine, and a milestone in the process of promoting the internationalization of Chinese medicine. Our hospital has carried out in-depth cooperation with Swedish universities to jointly promote Chinese medicine to go abroad and go to the world, which is not only an achievement of traditional Chinese medicine, but also an important achievement of the development of world medicine.
 
Constituent units

Karolinska Institute was founded in 1810 in Sweden as well as the awarding body of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Its life sciences and medical disciplines are ranked 7th in the QS World University Rankings 2022. It is a member of the European Research University Alliance (LERU), one of the world's top medical schools, and Sweden's largest medical research center, with a number of large affiliated hospitals and laboratories such as Karolinska University Hospital. The Nobel Prize Committee in Physiology or Medicine (Nobel Committee) of Karolinska Institutet is made up of 50 professors of the institutet and has been responsible for selecting Nobel laureates in physiology or medicine since 1901. The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) of the Faculty of Medicine is committed to connecting clinical and laboratory to explore the reduction of chronic diseases and the development of new treatments. CMM currently has nearly 500 employees and four research directions of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases, genetic diseases, neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases, and publishes more than 500 scientific papers every year.
 

Uppsala University is founded in 1477. It is the oldest university in Northern Europe, with its pharmacy discipline ranked 34th in the QS World University Rankings 2022. Uppsala University has 16 Nobel laureates, 5,000 researchers, and 193 doctoral disciplines in education. The university has cooperative relationships with many foreign universities, including Peking University and Peking Union Medical College. Founded in 1968, the School of Pharmacy is the earliest pharmacy school and the most complete pharmacy school in Europe. The laboratory of the Department of Pharmacognosy of the School focuses on the discovery of bioactive peptides from plants and animals, the development of new technologies for the structural synthesis of ultra-stable peptides, and the design of antimicrobial peptides. The laboratory has world-leading expertise and technology in peptide analysis, synthesis, bioanalysis and structure determination.
