Emergency Department in Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine

The Emergency Department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine was established in 1986，which is one of the earliest TCM hospital emergency departments established in China. This department became one of the first batch of TCM emergency centers in China in 1992 and the emergency clinical base of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007. In 2014, the Emergency Department of University Town Hospital awarded the honorary title of “National Youth Civilization”. In 2016, the emergency department became the only TCM emergency key discipline rated "excellent" in China, and in 2018, it became a regional TCM diagnosis and treatment center.

This department has independent laboratories, research rooms, and academic experience inheritance studios of famous doctors. The department established Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Research on Emergency in TCM in 1995, and became the construction unit of the Key Research Laboratory of TCM Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2009. Seven academic schools and famous doctors' studios have been established successively.

At present, the department has 5 emergency departments, 2 emergency intensive care units, 1 comprehensive ward, and 1 observation ward, with a total of 234 beds. It is an emergency specialty integrating pre-hospital emergency care, in-hospital emergency care, ward and emergency intensive care, and undertakes clinical, scientific research and teaching tasks. The annual number of emergency outpatients was nearly 600 000.

The emergency department has an advanced TCM medical technology team with solid basic knowledge, strong technical force, outstanding TCM characteristics and reasonable talent level. There are 381 medical staff, including 96 physicians, 12 chief physicians and 18 associate chief physicians.At present, the department has 1 national famous TCM doctor, 1 Changjiang Scholars, 1 "Young and middle-aged Famous TCM Doctor" from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, 1 TCM innovation team from the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2 National "Excellent Clinical Talents of TCM", 1 teaching team of Ideological and Political Education demonstration course from the Ministry of Education and 7 famous teacher.

In the past five years, the department has undertaken a total of 85 scientific research projects at all levels, including 9 national projects, 4 national science and technology major projects, 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 35 provincial and ministerial level projects, with a total scientific research funding of more than 50 million yuan. A total of 154 academic papers were published. The transformation of scientific research achievements reached 100 million yuan.
